Book Recycling Week

Book Recycling Week

Keep Crisp Beautiful's 5th Annual Book Recycling Week! Drop off your books any time February 16th-22nd in the drive thru behind the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce (502 South 2nd Street Cordele) and KCB will sort and distribute them to those in our community who need them.

Books usually cannot be recycled along with other paper recycling because of the glue that is used to bind them. In 2006, the U.S. printed more than 172,000 new book titles. In order to produce just one ton of paper needed for these new books, 3,688 lbs. of wood, 24,000 gallons of water, 216 lbs. of lime, 360 lbs. of salt cake and 76 lbs. of soda ash are required. Afterwards 84 lbs. of air pollutants, 36 lbs. of water pollutants and 176 lbs. of solid waste must be treated and disposed of.

All books accepted but there is a need for children's and large print books! Books only please!

Spring County Wide Cleanup Weekend

Spring County Wide Cleanup Weekend

Keep Crisp Beautiful along with Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce, Cordele Crisp Tourism, & Advance Disposal to hold Spring County Wide Clean Up Weekend!

Keep Crisp Beautiful will host the 2020 Spring Countywide Cleanup Weekend March 27-29. They encourage everyone to participate and help be a part of the solution in helping clean up our community in hopes of spurring individuals, businesses, churches, school groups, clubs and others to take part in local clean-up efforts. As in past cleanup campaigns, dumpsters are to be placed at Williams Field, in order for residents to have a place to bring additional household trash for safe and legal disposal.

“This event helps make all those spring cleaning projects as green as possible. You have a legal disposal for the excess garbage, it’s a great opportunity.” said Monica Simmons of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce. Simmons also said “THANK YOU to our businesses and residents that make the effort to keep their businesses and homes looking neat & clean. People like you help make the community a better and more attractive place to live. Your efforts have made and will continue to make a significant difference in the appearance of our community and we appreciate your ongoing commitment!”

All businesses and residents of Crisp County are invited to participate and KCB asks that if you see trash or unsightly areas, make it a priority to do something about it. Volunteers are needed in the community to organize cleanup groups. Keep Crisp Beautiful will provide gloves and trash bags to those who wish to participate. Call Catherine Harrell to reserve your supplies. The local effort will coincide with the launch of The Great American Cleanup.

“Littering and illegal dumping is a serious problem across the county and keeping your neighborhood clean is beneficial. We can provide you with tips for organizing a cleanup and assist with arranging for trash pickup for what you gather. We can also supply bags and gloves for your group. There’s really not an excuse for it, in our community.” Harrell said, noting that county residents can dispose of most forms of junk by simply taking it to the landfill at a low cost.”

You have the opportunity to join other volunteers in Crisp County in cleaning up our streets and highways! Crisp County residents, groups, businesses, and other organizations are invited to participate in the Spring County-Wide Cleanup on the weekend of March 27th-29th.

Items that will not be accepted include tires, appliances, furniture, paints or thinners, oils and gases.
